Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Small Silver Medal, 38mm. (Mr. Wm. Lewis. 2nd Offr. S.S. "Bulgarian" For Rescuing 11 Of Crew Of The "Antwerp" In The Atlantic 30. Sep. 1886), extremely fine, without its silver riband buckle Estimate £ 100-120 ´A Silver Medal to Captain Edward Parry of the S.S. Bulgarian, for having, on 30th September 1886, stood by the barque Antwerp while waterlogged and in distress during a gale in the Atlantic. A Silver Medal and vote of thanks to Mr. Wm. Lewis, Second Officer of the Bulgarian, for having, with a boat´s crew of ten men, proceeded from the steamer in the starboard lifeboat, and with great difficulty rescued the crew of the Antwerp. Thirty shillings was voted to each man of the boat´s crew, who, with the Second Officer, effected the rescue. The sea was so heavy that in attempting to hoist the boat up, both davits were carried away and the boat was lost.´ (48th Annual Report of the Committee of the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society 1887 refers).
