Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Small Silver Medal, 38mm. (Richard Williams for gallantly jumping into the Mersey and saving a boy 8 April 1874), suspension loose, edge bruising, therefore very fine, without its silver riband buckle Estimate £ 80-100 ´To Richard Williams, boatman, for jumping into the river from the George´s Pier-head, and rescuing a boy who had fallen in and was nearly drowned, on the 9th of April, 1874, in a rough sea. This rescue was very gallanty effected, and it is the third life Williams has saved´ (35th Annual Report of the Committee of the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society 1875 refers.)
