ST. VINCENT Early Letters and Handstamps 1778 (20 Oct.) entire letter to Bristol, marked "p Susannah via London", rated "5", showing "dartmouth/ship lre" h.s. (Robertson S.1); the contents include "I doubt not when you receive the news of Dominico being taken by the French, it will deter you from even sending the Renown should she not have sailesd before. The defenceless situation we are in makes us apprehend an attack on St. Lucia; not one of the Kings ships has been near this Island for some weeks past and the dissensions that still subsist between the Governor and people make us fear the worst, should we be attacked we must fall aprey, even to a small force, and to compleat the matter our Militia Law expires the 23rd inst.".
