Charles I, Nicholas Briot's coinage, Halfcrown, 15.04g., first milled issue, m.m. daisy & B/B, king on horseback pacing left, holding sword upright, ground below, reads fran et hib, rev. crowned oval garnished shield, with crowned C R at sides (JGB 715 (same dies); N.2299; S.2853), an exceptional example, the lightest wear, otherwise a beautifully struck coin, with a most attractive deep tone over extensive steel blue/gold lustre, extremely fine, very rare thus Estimate £ 2,000-2,500 provenance: T Wakley, Sotheby, 6 December 1909, lot 301 L E Bruun, Sotheby, 18 May 1925, lot 750 Spink Numismatic Circular, December 1968, no.8828
