CAPE OF GOOD HOPE 1861 "Woodblock" Issue Due to the nature of the paper used for these issues many examples show irregularities, both in the form of surface pitting and in the form of pre-printing paper creases. Our descriptions usually exclude the above, any defects mentioned being those which occurred after the stamps were delivered Four Pence Pale Milky Blue Single Type IB, clear to large margins all round, twice cancelled and tied on 1853 (9 July) envelope (vertical creases and part of address and seal cut away) from Somerset East to Graaff-Reinett, fine despatch oval d.s. on reverse and arrival oval d.s. on face; the adhesive with traces of surface abrasions at apex.
