†Charles I, Crown, 30.09g., Tower mint under Parliament, group 5, m.m. sun, king crowned and in armour, holding sword upright, on tall spirited horse left, rev. oval garnished shield (FRC XXVII/XXXIX; N.2199; S.2839), an unusually fine example, the detail of the king and the horse's head clearly struck up, with an even deep tone, extremely fine for this, very rare thus Estimate £ 3,000-4,000 provenance: S A H Whetmore, Glendining, 14 July 1961, lot 32 E Ahbe, Spink Auction 50, 6 March 1986, lot 734 Inveruglas collection, Noble Numismatics Sale No.48, 11 July 1995, lot 4449
