†Richard II, type IIB, Noble, 7.77g., London, king standing facing in ship, holding sword and shield, trefoil over sail, rev. floriated cross with lis at ends, R in centre, m.m. cross pattee on reverse only (Schneider 149 (same obv. die; N.1304; S.1655), double struck on obverse (as usual with this die), weak in parts, otherwise almost extremely fine Estimate £ 1,250-1,500 There is in the National Museum in Warsaw, SCBI37 426-434, a group of nine Richard II nobles purchased locally in 1972 and quite probably from a Polish hoard, p.21. No less than four are struck from this single obverse die (all double struck) suggesting that the parcel came by trade almost directly from the London mint.
