A Canadian VC Winner's Memento A letter, dated 1977, from Brigadier M.F. Gregg VC to the current vendor; and a Mons Medallion, struck to celebrate the liberation of Mons at the Armistice, and presented to Brigadier Gregg who released the Mayor of the town from German confinement in November 1918 (2) Estimate £ 40-60 Note: Near Cambrai, in late September/early October, Lieutenant Gregg of the Royal Canadian Regiment, although wounded twice, led his platoon against enemy trenches and personally killed or wounded 11 Germans, took 25 prisoners and captured 12 machine-guns. Despite his wounds, he insisted on remaining with his company and led his men in another attack until wounded a third time.
