Charles I, Tower mint, Shilling, 5.97g., group B, type 1b2, m.m. anchor (rounded flukes/square flukes), second bust, bust 3, small bust of king wearing ruff left, upper arch of crown jewelled with eight pearls, carolvs d g mag br fr et hi rex, rev., square shield surmounted by Welsh plumes, christo avspice regno (Sharp B3/2; c.f JGB 431; N.2220; S.2781), a very slight wave in flan, otherwise deeply and evenly toned, extremely fine with an excellent portrait, extremely rare in this condition Estimate £ 1,250-1,500 provenance:
