Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Coming first to prominence for his role in securing Ottoman Turkey's victory in the Battle of Gallipoli; fieldmarshal, revolutionary statesman, and founding father of the Republic of Turkey, serving as its president from 1923 to his death in 1938; implemented sweeping and very rigorous progressive reforms which modernized Turkey, building it into an industrialized, secular nation; he is considered one of the most important political figures of the 20th Century. Autographed Photograph as President. Lightly tinted photo, 6 ¼ x 8 ¼", of Atatürk in a dress jacket ¾ right. At right, in black ink he notes "14.XII, 1930 / Galata / Saraya" and signs below "Gazi M. Kemal" (Atatürk was given the title "Gazi" by the General National Assembly following his defeat of the Greeks in the Greco-Turkish War). Rare. Tear-crease at right cuts through "G" of "Gazi", second tear-crease above does not interfere with inscription. Very Good. In an ornate-bordered frame, 16 x 19 ¼".
