ITALIAN, 16th Century
Moses and the Israelites Gathering Manna from Heaven. Oval plaquette. Bronze, 46mm x 39mm. Moses at left standing right raises his staff, robed youth beside him; before them, a man kneels left, while another to his side raises his hands to heaven, small figure between kneels right, placing an omerful of manna into a jar. Two figures in the far background are very weak as they were merely sketched into the wax and are only visible under close inspection. Calveri 65 - This Specimen. Old collector's inventory tag (no. 8) on the back. Very rare and apparently unique. A Very Fine contemporary cast. Ex Numismatica Ars Classica, November 7, 2009, lot 763.
