Bartolomeo Colleoni (1400-1475), Captain-General of the Venetian Republic. Medal, 1455 or later. Bronze, 86mm. BARTHOL.CAPVT.LE-ONIS.MA.C.VE.SE., Bust of the noted condottiere left, rev. IVSTIZIA.AVGVSTA.ET.BENIGNITAS.PVBLICA, Nude man sitting on a cuirass left, holding a plumb line, signed: OPVS.M.GVIDIZA/NI at right. Hill 412. Seemingly cast from a very fine, pierced and slightly battered lead model. Later collector's or maker's mark "A" on edge. Very rare.
