Venezuelan leader, fought for Simon Bolivar in the War of Independence against the Spanish crown, later led Venezuela to independence from Gran Colombia, President of Venezuela three times, exemplar of the 19th Century South American caudillo. Autograph Letter Signed "J. Ant. Páez" as military commander. 3 ½ pages, 7 1/3 x 9". Fine.
