Lewis, Morgan (1754-1844). American lawyer, politician and military commander, second son of Francis Lewis, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; fought in the Revolution, Major General in the War of 1812 served in NY State Assembly (1789, 1792), NY Senate (1811-1814), NY Attorney General (1791-1801), Governor of New York (1804-1807), original member of the NY Society of the Cincinnati, helped found New York University. Document Signed "Morgan Lewis". Partially printed indenture, Feb.1, 1837 between Lewis and a Mr. Bunn, Volney, County of Oswego for a parcel of land. Lewis signs with a flourish below by small grill seal. Very Good. Accompanied by a 19th Century illustration of Lewis.
