Italy. Pair of Religious Medals. Copper, 37.2mm. Ca. 17th Century. Bust of Christ left, flanked by Hebrew letter alef for "Adoneinu" (Our Lord) and for "Yeshu", c/m at lower left: six pellets and aqueduct, rev. Five-line Hebrew legend, similar c/ms twice below. Such medals are reputed to have been given to Jewish converts to Christianity. The first this cataloger has ever seen with these c/ms. Rare. Good Very Fine; and Church of Sancta Maria Scala, Rome Pilgrims Medal. Late 18th Century. Copper, 48.5mm. Nimbate busts of Christ and Mary facing each other above arches and staircase; IES-VSMA-RIA SANCTA SCALA, rev. Busts of Sts. Peter and Pail facing each other above four stations; INT.
