Thomas Spring-Rice, 1st Baron Monteagle (British Statesman and Secretary for War & the Colonies) (1790-1866) - autograph letter signed, 2pp, approx 4.75"x7", dated June 1839, to an unidentified recipient, recommending a candidate"for the duties of one of the classic examiners" at the University of London, though the Baron notes that he is "extremely reluctant to interfere..." it would further be "personally very gratifying to me if their choice should fall on Mr. Burcham..." A fine letter from the final months of his term as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the government of the Viscount Melbourne.
