Field Service Tunic, Mess Jacket, and Frock Coat of Brig. General Sir Hugh Simpson-Baikie. Sudan, Boer War and World War I. Small to medium. Light khaki tunic, red cloth with palms facing on collar, metal shoulder insignia, cloth riband bars, leather belt with gun holster and cross belt with whistle, pale khaki shirt and tie; Dark navy blue cloth mess jacket with silver facings, scarlet at sleeve ends, silver acorn buttons, and twisted silver bullion shoulder cords each with two embroidered rank stars; and scarlet vest with silver facings; and Dark navy blue frock coat with cloth riband bars, embroidered crown shoulder insignia and scarlet sash belt with large twin tassels. Brigadier General Sir Hugh Simpson-Baikie (1871-1924) was commissioned into the Royal Artillery and posted to the 64th Field Battery, RFA Ireland in 1889. From 1893 to 1899 he served with the Royal Horse Artillery in India. He was present at the 1899 Nile Expedition, mentioned in the 1900 dispatches and awarded the Khedive's Sudan Medal and the Order of Medjidie. He later saw action in the Second Boer War, 1900-1902, at one time with the Galloping Maxims. Mentioned twice in dispatches, he received the Queen's South Africa and the King's South Africa Medals. During the Great War, Simpson-Baikie saw service in early every theatre - the Western Front, Gallipoli, Egypt, East Africa and Greek Macedonia. He was mentioned five times in dispatches and received the Legion of Honor and the 1914 Star. Simpson-Baikie was created KCMG in 1919. He died suddenly at age 52 while delivering a speech.
