[Slavery]: Tennessee Slave Bill of Sale, 1853. On white paper, 8 x 4 1/2": "Recd of John West seven hundred and seventy five dollars in full payment for a negro girl named Martha aged about ten years which negro I warrant to be sound in boddy [sic] and mind and a slave for life and title good" Dated Dec. 15th 1853 and signed and witnessed below. Attached to a Clerk's Certificate, State of Tennessee, Henderson County; dated Nov. 3rd 1854; on verso County Register's notice, Nov. 8, 1854 - on blue paper. Accompanied by Tennessee business partnership agreement, dated Feb. 14, 1845 between Thomas Ashcroft and John West, "for the purchase and sale of merchandise in their joint account". Very Fine.
