Truman, Harry S. Thirty-third President of the United States, served as vice president under FDR and succeeded him on the latter's death; implemented the Marshall Plan, established the Truman Doctrine and NATO. Document Signed "Harry" as President. 7 x 8 7/8" typed letter on White House stationery, May 1, 1945. Truman writes to Senator McFarland, one month after becoming President on FDR's death: "Dear Mac: It certainly was thoughtful of you and the gang to send me a note of congratulations. You make me more homesick than ever for the Senate. Wish I could be with you every day, but it is a physical impossibility now." He signs in black below. Very Fine.
