Mifflin, Thomas (1744-1800). Signer of the U.S. Constitution; Philadelphia merchant and politician; major general in the Continental Army, 1st and 3rd Quartermaster General during the American Revolution, President of the Continental Congress, delegate to the Constitutional Congress of 1787; seventh President of Pennsylvania; first governor of Pennsylvania. Document Signed "Thomas Mifflin" as Governor of Pennsylvania. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania deed for the sale and granting of land in Luzerne County to Nicholas Brown, Thomas P. Ives and Ebenezer Bowman, April 28, 1797. Vellum, 20 1/3 x 11 1/8". The patent is for "a certain tract of land called "Moreland" situate on the Waters of the Wyolusing and Wapasining Creeks". Blind embossed State of Pennsylvania paper seal upper left corner. Mifflin in large hand lower left. Attested to and signed by "James Trimble Deputy Secy" bottom left. Trimble served as deputy secretary for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1777-1837. Rolls office notation on verso with paper seal and signature of Matthew Irwin; additional paper seal on verso. Well-preserved and Very Fine.
