Controversial first director of the FBI, which he helped create; eventually abused his position and power to harass political dissenters and activists, amass secret files on and threaten and intimidate political figures, including sitting presidents of the United States. Document Signed "J. Edgar Hoover" as FBI Director. 8x10 ½ typed letter on FBI stationery, dated February 24, 1949, to Senator Ernest W. McFarland. Hoover responds with pleasure to McFarland's request for an autographed photo of himself, and signs in blue below. Included is McFarland's original letter to Hoover. Very Fine.
