Holladay, Benjamin (1819-1887). "The Stagecoach King", transportation businessman, created the Overland Stage to California during the height of the 1849 Gold Rush; created a stagecoach empire, purchased the illegally incorporated Oregon Central Railroad of Salem in 1868 turning it into the Oregon and California Rail Road Company. Document Signed "Ben Holladay" as President of the Oregon and Californian RR Co. Partially printed bank check for the company, Portland Oregon, July 11, 1876 for $500 to North Pacific Transportation Co via cashier. Holladay signs lower right. Vignette of steam locomotive at left. Very Fine.
