Goodyear, Charles (1800-1860). American self-taught chemist and manufacturing engineer who developed vulcanized rubber; Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company is named after him. Document Signed "Chas Goodyear". Partially printed Bank of the Metropolis check, Washington, D.C. June 2, 1860 for $50 payable to William C. DeForrest. Goodyear signs below one month before his death. Goodyear died July 1, 1860 while travelling to see his dying daughter. After arriving in New York, he was informed that his daughter had already passed. Goodyear collapsed and was taken to the Fifth Avenue Hotel where he died. Cross-cut cancelled. Very Fine.
