Speaker of the House, 1856-1857; Governor of Massachusetts, 1858-1861; appointed by President Lincoln as one of the first "political" major generals in the Civil War; after the war served in Congress, supported Manifest Destiny, influenced Alaska Purchase legislation, supported women's suffrage. Autograph Signed "N.P. Banks Waltham Mass." On 5 ¼ x 3" white note paper with autograph of George B. Loring, member of the House of Representatives-Massachusetts above signed "Geo.B.Loring Salem Mass." Very Fine.
