Bank of the United States of America. Certificate for 20 Shares in the Bank, Philadelphia, Oct. 24, 1837 signed by Nicholas Biddle. Known for his role in the Bank War, financier Nicholas Biddle (1786-1844) served as third and last President of the Second Bank of the United States. He also served in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Attractive vignette of Lady Liberty petting eagle seated on US shield ship in background. Biddle signs as President "N Biddle" bottom right, Joseph Cowperthwait (1795-1868) signs at left as Cashier. Tiny rent from ink burn. Some age toning and light foxing. Very Fine.
