Great Britain. Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Victoria. To: 3636 PTE. ALEXR. DOUGLAS 71st FOOT.), impressed. Born in Aberdeen. Alexander Douglas enlisted in the 71st Foot of the Highland Light Infantry on April 27, 1853 at age 16. He served with the 71st in the Crimea (Sebastopol), in the Indian Mutiny (Central India) and on the Northwest Frontier of India at Umbeyla in 1863. He died in 1900 in Edinburgh. Included are copies of Douglas' discharge papers and a copy of a photo of Douglas as a bandsman (his career was spent as a private, but he was a bandsman for a period). On riband.
