Roald Amundsen (1872-1928). Silver (.830) Spoon commemorating Amunden's trans-Arctic flight aboard the airship "Norge" in 1926. By Solmund Freng, Olso. 130mm length. Jugate portraits left of Amundsen, Lincoln Ellsworth and Umberto Nobile on the handle, Northern Lights above, shields of their nations and polar bear below. The bowl depicts the airship "Norge" above the Arctic where three flags are planted; LUFTSKIBFAERDEN.FRA SVALBARD.11.MAI.VIA.NORDPOLEN.TIL.TELLER.ALASKA.13.MAI.1926. Hallmarked on back. Aboard the "Norge", Amundsen and an expedition of 15 other men - Ellsworth, Riiser-Larsen, Oscar Wisting and an Italian aircrew led by aeronautical engineer Umberto Nobile left Spitsbergen May 11, 1926 and landed in Teller Alaska two days later in the first crossing of the Arctic.
