Philadelphia & Lancaster Turnpike Road (PA) 1795. One share, No.9030. Horse and wagon approaching toll gate. Signed by William Bingham, founder and director of the first bank in the country, the Bank of North America. When this certificate was issued, American investors had few investment options - land companies, banks, insurance companies, a few manufacturing companies, and not much else. This is the earliest known issue of American stock certificates with an engraved vignette. Printed on vellum. VF+, some trivial foxing.
