1847 (1850) Commonwealth of Virginia Medal to Major-General Winfield Scott. Julian MI-27. Bronzed Copper. 89.7mm. 9mm thick. By Charles Cushing Wright. Draped bust of Scott atop tablet inscribed with Virginia's presentation legend for Scott's service in the War with Mexico, decorated with flags and military trophies, rev. Eagle, branch in beak, sits atop column beribboned with names of battles, battle scenes and mountains in background, wreath with shield around. According to mint reports only 25 examples of this medal were struck in 1850. Tiny rim bruise. Light cherry-brown. Uncirculated.
