Slavery, West Indies: Expense Disbursement Record from the Slave Schooner Active at Barbados. April 12, 1769. 15" x 9 ¼". One leaf. Manuscript Entries on recto only in two columns, one for expenses and one for payments made. Titled "Disbursements for the Schooner Active at Barbados." The clear evidence that the Active was a slave ship is found in the following entries: "…potatoes pumpkins & limes for the Slaves." "…Commissions on the gross sales of 42 slaves…" Individuals named include Thomas Allen, John Carter Alexander, George Harvey, "Mr. Lopez" (perhaps Aaron Lopez of Rhode Island, who was known to be one of the owners). Very Fine condition.
