Fitz-James Stuart y Palafox, Don Carlos Maria (1849-1901). 16th Duke of Alba, Grandee of Spain; his mother was the sister of Empress Eugénie of France; served as Spanish Ambassador to Belgium, 1872-1878, then to the court of St. Petersburg until 1885, later as Grand Treasurer of Spain and diplomat in Istanbul.
