Custer, George Armstrong. Custer Autographed Envelope. About 5" x 3". Postmarked Detroit, Michigan, "DEC 17, (no year indicated)." The address is written in dark brown pen by George Armstrong Custer to "Mrs. General Custer / Fort (??)worth / Kansas." The right end missing. Probably Fort Leavenworth. The ink is darker than usually seen on Custer's envelopes, and the writing is smudged in spots, but certainly executed by Custer. Perhaps Custer did not have access to his preferred writing instrument and ink when he wrote this particular envelope.
