Russia. "Illustrated History of the Russian Empire". Russian Orthodox Youth Committee, New York, 1971. Folio, 489 pages, color and black and white illustrations. Soft turquoise covers with ornate gilt and silver gilt and multi-color Tsar Nichols II, Tsarina Alexandra and St. George. A grandiose work of rather curious and lazy scholarship and editing - wrong dates for Catherine the Great's reign, Tsar Paul is confused with Peter… Still, visually impressive and a very attractive production. Dedicated on the frontispage by Archbishop Nikon (Nicholas P. Rklitsky, the Ruling Archbishop of the Eastern American Archdiocese) to Lt. Gen. Milton Grafly Baker (founder of the Valley Forge Military Academy) - "To dear general Milton Baker - as a token of remembrance and gratitude for your magnanimous help, and with firm hope that the much suffering Russian nation will defeat godless Communism and that a time of peace will come to the world - Sincerely yours Archbishop Nikon - March 10, 1973 New York". Ex libris Lt. General Milton Grafly Baker. Fine.
