Russia. Coronation Album of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna. St. Petersburg, Expédition Pour la Confection des Papiers de l'Etat, 1899. Folio (438 x 316mm). Original leather binding colored and gilded, pebbled background, Imperial eagle at center, surmounted above by a raised, medallic disk with the profiles of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra left. The back similarly decorated after a design by Nicolai Samokich. Text printed in red, blue and black, illustrations (some in color); 115 plates, five double plates, nine color plates, after M.N. Samokich, Madame Samokich-Soudkovsky, M.S. Vassilkovsky, A. Benois, C. Lebedev, V. Makovsky, E. Repin, A. Ryabouchkin, V. Serov and V. Vasnetsov. The extensive index includes seven menu plates and a menu for the Coronation Banquet on May 14 after a design by Victor Vasnetsov, printed by A.A. Levenson, and reproductions of the original concert, Gala and Fête programmes. Pale blue cloth lines the interior front and backpages with Nicholas II ciphers and Imperial eagles. The text and illustrations commemorate both the Coronation of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorova and the coronation and reign of all Tsars starting with Ivan III in 1498. Ex Libris Lillingehus. Inscribed in blue pen by owner beside frontispage. The cloth slightly worn and discolored. An impressive and sumptuous album.
