Austria / Hungaria, Franz II. (I.) (1792-1835)

1799 Bronze Medal by Wion to commemorate the siege of Erzherzog Karls against the Frenchs in Schwaben and the alliance with Russia.

Obv. decorated bust left, rev. Justice standing holding, almost leaning on the Russian imperial doubled-head eagle shield. Diameter 38mm, ref Sig. Julius 672, Hennin 882.
Franz II., at the time at which he was depicted on this medal, was the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (1792 until 6 August 1806). In 1804, he became as well the first Emperor of Austria and ruled under the new name of Francis I.
