Louis XIII, King of France. (September 27, 1601 - May 14, 1643). MLS. 8v0. Royal pension. St. Germain en Laye. March 16, 1640. To the Treasurer of Royal Reserves, Monsieur Gaspard de Fuers. Louis XIII was a monarch of the House of Bourbon. He ruled as King of France from 1610 to 1643, and King of Navarre from 1610 to 1620, when the crown of Navarre was merged with the French crown. His father Henry IV , was assassinated, and his mother, Marie de' Medici, acted as regent. The young king took power in 1617, exiling his mother and executing her followers. The document grants a pension:
"Pay in ready money to Sieur de Fournay, Marquis, the sum of Four Thousand Livres which I arranged for him for his pension, for the past year sixteen hundred thirty-nine…" "Bouhillac" near the bottom. The writing is crisp and clear, but the paper shows some moderate age toning. A small hole at lower left is hardly distracting. A small red wax seal secures a note to the verso.
