World War II. Great Britain. British Pacific Fleet. Framed Color Cartoon Drawing of R and R just before anchoring in Manus, Admiralty Islands in 1945. By Norman Mackinson, Royal Marines, Orderly to Vice Admiral Sir H. Bernard Rawlings, British Pacific Fleet. An amusing drawing showing two beet-red naval policemen grimacing at the antics of a crew of sailors drunk on beer on a small Pacific island, climbing palms and chasing local women. The drawing was presented to Lt. Commander Robert F. Morris, U.S.N., Comm. Liaison Officer aboard the 'H.M.S. King George V' by Mackinson. Morris' typed narrative and description on the back of the frame notes "This cartoon represents his [Mackinson's] fanciful thoughts just prior to our anchorage in Seeadler Harbor, Manus, Admiralty Islands where we were to enjoy a rehabilitation visit after a long period at sea in the combat area along Sakishima Gunto, just south of Okinawa. The beer was found in great plenty, also the palm trees and the SP's, but alas, there were no girls." 17 ¼ x 13 ½". Clean and well-kept. Fun piece.
