Chile. Star of the Legion of Merit. Type II. Silver, gilt and enamels. 40 mm. On central medallion: yellow-orange Pillar on multicolor field; motto in gold letters around on dark blue -- set on white enamel star, LIBERTAD on blue banner above, green and red wreath in angles over radiant star. On the other side: a steaming volcano against multicolor sky; LEGION DE MERITO DE CHILE in gold on dark blue around, banner with OHIG.S.YNST above. Light veining on tips of star's enamel. Rare and attractive early piece. Good Very Fine.
