Edison Ore Milling Company (New York) 1881. 50 shares. No.1185. All blue. Small eagle at the bottom. Issued to Thomas A. Edison. Signed by Samuel Insull as president . VF+. Thomas Edison formed this company to pursue the idea of extracting iron ore from sand deposits. He ran into technical difficulties he could not overcome, and eventually had to close the company. Samuel Insull became Thomas Edison's right hand man, and greatly contributed to creating an integrated electrical infrastructure in the United States. When the Great Depression came, investors blamed Insull for their losses, and he was carted off to jail, but later acquitted. A scarce and desirable piece that will fit well into any fine collection of Edison material.
