Lot: 849

An enigmatic silver ingot purportedly from Globe, Arizona Undated, 5.55 ounces, .900 Fine. This curious ingot bears the following markings stamped longwise on the obverse: 5.55 OZS./ .100 COPPER/ .900 SILVER. A small 'F' is stamped just inside the right obverse border. Likewise, the reverse bears the following: GLOBE ARIZ/ 4 B MINE/ COIN FINE. The numeral '4' is stamped into the right edge. The reverse displays considerable central roughness from the manufacturing process; otherwise the surfaces are largely smooth. Globe, Arizona remains an extremely active mining district to this day. More than likely, this bar is rather modern and was produced for sale to the bullion buyers circa 1960's or later. We find no records of a similar bar being offered at auction, thus its scarcity is safe to assume.
