Eagle Mining Company Silver Ingot. Undated, 5.83 ounces, .999 Fine. The left periphery of the circular Eagle Mining Company stamp is partially off the ingot at the lower obverse. The remaining obverse imprints reading vertically from the top are: 999/ FINE/ VALUE/ $7.52. The reverse bears stamps positioned longwise reading: NO.334/ OZS 5.83. Smooth and enjoying an excellent presentation. Although highly collectible, the ingots of The Eagle Mining Company are apparently rather modern. In fact, it is largely believed that the "Mining Company" reference attached by the producer of these ingots was no more than a marketing ploy used to garner additional demand from the avid collector base of such mining-related memorabilia (the .999 fineness of the bars also lends itself to that conclusion, as earlier mining bars are not the product of such refining). These bars seemed to surface in the very late 1960's; the thought being that they were made for the silver bullion market that developed after the removal of specie from our coinage. Quite scarce and eagerly sought nonetheless.
