Kings of Macedon. Philip V (221-179 BC). AR Tetradrachm, struck 188/7-184 BC. Pella or Amphipolis mint, Ar--, magistrate. 16.41 gms. Head of Philip cast as the hero Perseus wearing a winged helmet surmounted by a griffin, harpa over shoulder, all at the center of a Macedonian shield, rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΦIΛIППoY above and below club, AP monogram above, two monograms below, all within oak wreath, harpa outer left. Mamroth Philip 2, cf. SNG Alpha Bank 1052, SNG München--, SNG Saroglos--. Pleasing rich deep gray tone, fine style. Extremely Fine.
