Silverton, Ophir & San Miguel Toll-Road Company of Colorado (Colorado) 1884. Silverton. 10 shares. Issued, not cancelled. No.83. Colorado and Massachusetts state arms flank an oval vignette of a stage coach (rarely encountered on stock certificates) and a covered wagon, "600 Shares" in the end panel at right, VF+. Toll roads had a dramatic impact on the ability to move large quantities of goods in and out of Colorado. Four years after this certificate was issued Otto Mears and others organized the Silverton Railroad Company to move passengers and ores from Silverton to Ouray. VF+. A fine piece of Western Americana.
