Twain, Mark. Autographed program. January 17th, 1885. General Music Hall, Everett House, New York. Portrait of Samuel Clemens. Beautifully matted and framed. Twain lectures on his famous "Jumping Frog." He shares the stage with George W. Cable, the novelist specializing in stories about Creole Louisiana. Mark Twain found himself in financial difficulties brought on by poor investments in the publishing industry. He backed a typesetting machine which never quite functioned successfully, and he invested in Charles L. Webster and Company, which eventually failed. Twain turned to the lecture circuit to cover the debts he incurred. Excellent "Mark Twain" signature. From the Marty Weiner Collection.
