Freud, Sigmund. Framed photograph with sentiment. "With good wishes to you and your wife. Sigm. Freud." Sigmund was an Austrian neurologist who was the founder of psychoanalysis. He was forced to leave Vienna by the Nazis, and fled to London. His treatment involved free association instead of hypnosis, which was widely practiced at one time. He also believed that repressed and forgotten impressions are behind many abnormal mental states. From the Marty Weiner Collection
