1868 Three Dollars, Judd-655, Pollock-728, Low R.7, NGC PF62. Struck in aluminum with reeded edges. From the regular dies for the Indian Princess three dollar gold issue. Medallic die alignment, as on the regular gold proofs. Bright, highly reflective surfaces and the main devices show signs of Cameo-like frost. A tiny rim nick is mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. Part of a complete 16-piece aluminum proof set. Ex: Treasury Secretary Hugh McCulloch (circa 1868); McCulloch family; Eric Newman; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Ex. Lot 1734 Stack's 11/2009 where it brought $6500 + 15% = $7,475.
