Anglo-Gallic. Edward III (1327-1362, 1372-1377). Black coinage. Double. 1.35 gms. AGLE FRAC in two lines in field, stretched omega above and below; +EDVV(?R)DVS:REX (annulet stops), rev. Cross calvary within inner circle, three upper limbs ending in fleurs; +MONETA: D(VP)LEX. Galata 109 (where it is classified as Aquitaine), Elias 124 (RRRR), S.8087, B.--, Poey d'Avant--, Dup.--. Elias notes that this type was closely imitated in Bergerac, thus is likely to have been struck in Aquitaine. Some weakness, but overall sharp strike. Very Fine and Very rare. This is only the second specimen offered in public auction, and compares most favorably with the Joffre specimen which sold for $4,800 at Triton.
