U.S. Army field commander in North Africa and Europe during WWII, Army general; at one point during the war, Bradley had 1.3 million men under his command; appointed the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1949; last U.S. Armed Forces member to hold the rank of five-star general. General of the U.S. Army and of the U.S. Air Force, aviation pilot, Chief of the Air Corps (1938-1941); commanded the U.S. Air Force during WWII, only Air Force general to hold the five-star rank, only person to hold the five-star rank in two different U.S. military forces; one of the founders of Pan American World Airways.
