Nimitz, Chester William. Fleet Admiral United States Navy; during WWII, Nimitz was Commander-in-Chief of the US Pacific Fleet and Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Ocean Areas, of the US and Allied air, land and sea forces. Nimitz signed for the United States when Japan formally surrendered Sept. 2, 1945 on board the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Cover Signed "C.W. Nimitz Fleet Admiral USN". Nimitz signs in black marker in the address field of a patriotic cachet envelope - Uncle Sam: "America Is Not Free Till They Are Freed" by Walter Poppenger. The envelope is postmarked "Bayonne, NJ Nov. 14 1943. Very Fine.
