American Express Company (NY), 1866, 4 shares, No.1361, blue, Capital Stock 18,000 shares, blue, dog and key in circle, signed by Henry Wells and William G. Fargo. Wells started his career as an agent for Harden Express, then founded Wells and Company, which was the first express firm to offer service west of Buffalo. Fargo was a messinger for Wells and Company, eventually became a partner, and eventually became the president of American Express. VF+, nicely matted with portraits of Wells and Fargo, suitable for framing.
